How herbal medicine can help you
Herbalists may be consulted in a similar way to an old-fashioned GP which allows for a constructive long-term relationship between patient and herbalist. Traditionally, herbs have been used for both acute medicine and chronic complaints. Today, however, many people first consult a herbalist after a diagnosis, such as IBS, that doesn’t have an easy pharmaceutical fix. Another common use of herbal medicine is the effective management of stress and its associated symptoms, which can show up in all sorts of surprising ways. Herbs also offer natural alternatives to managing normal body changes throughout life, such as menopause or less efficient digestion. The focus of my treatment is to enable everyone to manage their own health better and to learn to use herbs wisely.

As far as possible, I use herbs grown and processed here at Harpford Farm. I often prescribe teas but also prescribe tinctures and creams. Although herbs can act very quickly, treatment may be prolonged. It may be worth trying one of my off-the-shelf products, such as a tea mix, to start with.

An initial consultation will usually take between 1 and 1 ½ hours for us to cover your health history and current needs. It’s often only by understanding the bigger picture that it is possible to prepare a bespoke prescription best suited to you, together with an agreed treatment plan. To complement herbal prescriptions, some lifestyle changes may be necessary to achieve treatment goals. Follow up consultations, 2 to 4 weeks after the initial one, are not often longer than ½ hour and serve to review results or adapt prescriptions.

If you are unsure about booking, I am happy to have a 15 minute chat to help you decide if this is right for you. If I feel that a different herbalist, or a different type of therapist would suit you better, I will try to help you find the right person for your needs. Working with your GP or other therapists can be the most effective approach.
I hold a diploma from Betonica School of Herbal Medicine, which is a NIMH approved school. I am fully insured. I do not share any of your personal data unless required to do so by law.
